After a long delay between the two sets of quarterfinals, the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinals will move ahead swiftly after the promotion confirmed a September 10 date at Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena.In the round of four, remaining tournament favorite Josh Barnett takes on Sergei Kharitonov, while Antonio Sllva faces field newcomer Daniel Cormier, who is replacing the injured Alistair Overeem.
Also confirmed for the event is a middleweight championship matchup pitting current titleholder Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza defending against Luke Rockhold, as well as the return of former 205-pound champ Muhammed Lawal, who will face Roger Gracie. A fifth television fight has yet to be announced.
The event will air at 10:30 pm ET on Showtime, and will be tape delayed on the west coast.
The Ohio show will mark a quick return to the state for Strikeforce, which visited it for the first time with March 5's Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Feijao card.
According to oddsmakers, Barnett is considered the most likely of the remaining GP fighters to win the tourney, while Silva is the second choice. Cormier, however, has yet to lose as a pro, going 8-0 in his run so far. A date for the finals is not likely to be announced until after the semis are concluded.
