Round 1: A 'King' Mo chant starts up in the crowd, perhaps thanks to Lawal's relatives, who are in attendance. Gracie, wearing his trademark plain black shorts, paws with the long jab to start. Lawal looks for a way in, changing levels once or twice but not threatening much of a shot just yet. Lawal flings out a left hook, then the referee implores them to pick up the pace. Gracie comes in with a knee that appears to have caught Lawal off-guard. Left hook again from Lawal, but he seems to be having trouble closing the distance and getting close enough to launch much of an attack on the taller, lankier Gracie. Another knee by Gracie, followed by a jab. The crowd grows restless. Lawal tries to follow a left hook with a right straight, but can't get it there. Gracie comes lunging in close and Lawal drops him with a big overhand right. Gracie covers up and Lawal lands another right that leaves him unresponsive, but there's no reaction from the ref and so Lawal starches him again. He's out, and the ref dives in to stop it.
